Ron deHarte will be sworn in as Palm Springs’ 25th mayor during a city council meeting today.

DeHarte, the current mayor and District 3 representative, will become the city’s first openly gay Mexican-American mayor. He is also the CEO of Greater Palm Springs Pride.

Naomi Soto, chair of the Measure J Oversight Commission, and David Ready, a former city manager, will also be sworn in Thursday and represent Districts 4 and 5, respectively.

Outgoing Mayor Jeffrey Bernstein and council members Lisa Middleton and Christy Holstege are expected to make final speeches. Bernstein remains a councilor, but the position of mayor changes every year.

The agenda for the city council meeting — which, according to the city calendar, starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall and is open to the public — also includes consent items to be voted on by current council members.

Residents can also watch live at palmspringsca.gov, Palm Springs Community Television Channel 17 or the official Palm Springs YouTube channel.
